Line a popular Messaging App, with 560 Million registered users worldwide, has introduced Music Streaming to engage fans with Music in Japanese Market where, digital music downloads are not very popular.
Line Music will offer 1.5 Million songs with plans to expand its library, featuring domestic and overseas artists such as Taylor Swift and Sam Smith, to more than 5 million songs by the end of this year, and over 30 million next year. Apple has recently announced the launch of subscription based Music Services offering users a chance to stream music without having to download it.
Although Permanent Downloads at 52 percent is the largest chunk of the pie, subscription streaming has grown from 6 percent in 2008 to 23 percent in 2014. Ad supported Streaming makes up for only 9 percent of USD 6.9 Billion Market, worldwide.
